Halloween is close and it is the time to go out and do some trick and treat.

It is the best time of the year.

Why?

One word – candies.

You can dress up and can be anything for a night.

The festival gives you an opportunity to let out the demon inside you and walk free o the surface of the earth for a night.

Nahh…it is all about the candies.

Usually, traditional monsters like Vampires, Frankenstein, Mummy, Miley Cyrus are the fan favorites, but here are two of the most popular modern iteration – Joker from the Batman franchise and Pennywise from the It.

Origin

Joker made his debut in the debut issue of Batman on 25 April 1940.

Though Joker has been portrayed in various adaptations ranging from cartoons to movies, the most popular version is the one portrayed by Heath Ledger.

The movie The Dark Knight (2008) portrayed an anarchist Joker who was obsessed with the idea of chaos. Unlike other adaptations, this version had every primary aspect of the classic Joker, yet it was distinguishable.

Heath Ledger did extensive research, and the isolation and depression ended up taking his life.

It or the Dancing clown Pennywise made his debut on the 1986 novel by Stephen King, It. “It” is an entity which preys upon the children of Derry, Maine, roughly every thirty years.

The character has been adapted twice.

The latest portrayal was made by Bill Skarsgård in the 2017 adaptation.

Powers

Joker doesn’t possess any supernatural or superhuman abilities. He relies heavily on his knowledge about chemicals to develop lethal and harmful weapons. Most of his weapons disguise as harmless toys or accessories jokers carry.

Pennywise is an entity that possesses a variety of powers that include the ability to shapeshift, manipulate, and go unnoticed by adults.

It has been hinted in the books that Pennywise is a cosmic entity and might be female.

Cultural Impact

Joker (portrayed by Heath Ledger) has become one of the most iconic villains of all time.

Unlike other portrayals so far, this one explored the psychotic nature of the Joker. He was bent on destroying Batman’s psychology. He wanted him to break his one rule – No killing.

Joker has shown some really gruesome moments in the comics, and this was the first portrayal that reflected the same level of insanity.

He was trying to make a point, and the acute portrayal has turned him into a fan favorite.

The dark knight is considered as one of the best superhero movies of all time, and a part of the reason is the portrayal made by Joker.

Pennywise has been claimed as one of the scariest clowns of the pop culture.

King stated that he came up with the idea for Pennywise after asking himself what scared children “more than anything else in the world”

The character has been cited as the inspiration to several clown sightings in US and England.

Pennywise has a mythology and saga of his own.

It has become one of the most successful horror movies, surpassing Exorcist.

Which one should you choose?

Joker is the representation of chaos and anarchy. He is meant to stand against the system, and his aim was to prove everyone is just like him – evil and a monster beneath their skin.

If you support the idea of anarchy, Joker should be your costume idea.

He believes everyone is a monster, they just try to hide it, and he doesn’t.

Pennywise is the representation of fear. He is supposed to represent the fear of clown in kids.

The sole idea behind Pennywise was to reflect the most common and scariest phobia in kids.

If you like the idea of fear or phobia, Pennywise is your thing.
